We are so glad to see you’re interested in this paid internship opportunity for high school students.
The Bronx River EELS Internship is a 12-month paid internship program that helps students dive into an environmental science career path. Interns will first participate in hands-on lab activities, spend their academic year going in depth in topics and working with a research mentor. An opportunity to be a paid summer peer mentor for an additional 2 months may be offered at the end of internship. Participants earn up to $3,600 in stipends over the course of the program, and college credit through CUNY Lehman College.
Requirements:
- Must be attending a New York City public high school or charter school.
- Entering 11th or 12th grade in Fall 2025
- Scores of 80 or better in math, science, and English.
- A cumulative average of 80 or better.
Program Details:
Summer 2025
Interns will complete hands-on field lab assignments on the Bronx River, and take an introductory Environmental Science course through Lehman College’s College Now program.
Fall 2025 – Spring 2026
Students will meet on Saturday mornings and go further in-depth in topics such as water quality testing, fish monitoring, and forest stewardship. Then, interns will work in teams alongside a professional research mentor and complete a research project and poster.
Summer 2026
Interns who have completed the program through Spring 2025 are invited to return in Summer 2025 and help mentor the new class of EELS, earning leadership skills along the way.

Monday, Wednesday – Class with Lehman College Tuesday, Thursday – On-Site Field work at Bronx River Alliance
Fall 2025-Spring 2026:
September 19 – December 20
February 27 – June 13
Saturdays, 9:30am – 1:30pm
Summer 2026: TBD
